Any person whose life activity is limited substantially due to a physical disability or mental impairment is considered to be differently abled. At AAS we help such people in various ways so that they can enjoy the life to the fullest.
The first step to helping people with disabilities is educating our volunteers about the use of right words while speaking to them or about them. It is often polite to place their personhood before their specific condition.
We motivate people to volunteer in their area and community, then train them to interact with such people in a proper way.
Our volunteers strive to help people with disabilities, including veterans and the elderly, live more independently, making thwir homes more accessible, provide medical equipment or custom wheelchairs.
Donating money, even a small amount, can help them greatly. We ask volunteers, friends and family members to donate in innovative ways. If you’re having a birthday party, wedding or other big event where it’s custom to bring gifts, we encourage guests to give donations for differently abled instead.
Differently abled people need an understanding friend when they are struggling. Being a good listener can help a lot. A culture shift of slowing down and treating their needs as important would help in bringing the desired change in their lives.
Come, strengthen our hands… together we can…
