Ancient Indians adored and worshiped women as goddesses. However later on, in the middle ages the status degraded and the society started considering women were only to perform child bearing duties, taking care of family members and perform household chores. They thought that men are for the field and women are for the home. Though this narrative has been changing in these modern times and women are breaking all the barriers of social issues and enjoying equality of status in almost all fields yet they are not fully independent.
Women in India face a lot of social barriers and problems. AAS Ashram along with its battery of volunteers and allied partners tries to address various issues related to women empowerment like:
- Selective abortion :
In some sections of the society discrimination against women and a preference for sons have been promoted. Our volunteers organise brain storming sessions among rural population and try to guide them about this menace. - Dowry :

People try to make a small fortune while marrying their sons. Growing demands from the groom’s side is one of the main reasons that families let the girl child sleep in the womb. Various steps are being taken in this regard by AAS Ashram. Spiritual education is the most important aspect that discourage people to commit the sin of killing a life in the womb. Group marriages are organised for financially weaker ones where the expense of taken care by the Trust and its volunteers. - Domestic violence :
